Then we have another four years for the dental degree itself (in the form of either a DDS or a DMD). When you think about it however, this is really just the start of the journey for the dentist! What determines the real competency of your dentist is the training and experience that he gets after that point.
Ask your potential dentist about his or her continuing education. This is where you will find the dentist that matches your needs. For example, if your dental needs are minimal then most dentists could be good candidates for you. If you have more extensive or even complex dental needs, however, then looking for a dentist that has more advanced, hands-on training would be a wise decision.
